A New York nightclub has found a unique use for Apple's iPod MP3
player with no turntable needed. Read on for more details...
"...The
set-up revolves around a standard mixer, which allows the DJ to fade
between two music sources. But instead of the two standard turntables,
a pair of iPods have been substituted. One
is a 5-GB model containing about 1,000 songs, the other a 10-GB model
with 2,000 songs. Connected by headphone jacks, the iPods sit on
Plexiglass blocks, one on each side of the mixer.
With 3,000 songs to choose from, patrons play everything from Black
Sabbath to Basement Jaxx.
Everyone gets seven minutes to play a set;
the time is counted down on a giant digital clock placed in front of
the mixer. Matt Maland, 27, a part-time DJ,
has even figured out how to make the iPods scratch. By hitting the
center button twice in quick succession, the music backs up a
fraction."

Wired.com article.
Furthermore, Apple has finally decided to
introduce the iPod for PC. If you have checked out the great
features for this MP3 player, now is the time to do so, visit

"Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company, said it
would offer the content of about 1,000 of its albums, primarily from
its back catalog, through EMusic.com, a unit of Vivendi Universal Net
USA. Among the artists included in the new licensing program
were B.B. King, Jimmy Buffett, the Four Tops, Joe Cocker, Ringo Starr
and Stevie Wonder..."
"The titles from Universal Music would
be integrated into EMusic's service, which offers unlimited access to
over 200,000 songs in the standard MP3 format for anywhere from $9.99
to $14.99 per month." Read more

"Consumers are on pace to spend $11 billion on DVD sales and rentals
this year, making it the fastest-growing home-electronic product ever.
DVDs routinely make more money in their opening weekend than
comparable theatrical releases. Video games aren't far behind, with
sales reaching $6.3 billion last year, nearly double what they were
five years ago. The record biz, whose sales were off 10% last year, is
in such bad shape that even Entertainment Weekly's summer music issue
was full of ads ... for DVDs!"
